1970 42' Commander for sale.

The boat is in really good shape mechanically with many new parts. .

Canvas is in good shape, Camper canvas as well.

Hull # FBA 42 4043R $37,000.

Fresh rebuild on original Carters.

New fuel pumps.

New fresh water pump.

New impellers.

New flooring.

Fresh varnish on swim platform.

Fresh teak oil on toe rails.

New Promariner charger.

New Refrigerator.

New hot water heater.

New head and holding tank hose.

Engines and generator run smoothly.

The boat is on the Tennessee River at Harriman TN.

This is one of the classics and is on her way back to original shine and beauty.

As with every vintage vessel there are always improvements to be made but this one will make someone a true classic with very little work left to do.

I dont have much background on this boat.

I bought her about 4 years ago from a man who did not have much knowledge of boating.

The boat sat for about two years after he bought it, in which he used it just to escape to.

With that said there was no work done to her, but he did have the proper winterizations done.

I bought the boat and had to truck it about three hours to its destination.

Upon getting her ready to travel.

I changed impellers which were destroyed.

However, in running her over the past years, neither engine has offered to heat up.

I had to prime the carbs, but she did fire up and ran fine about seven miles to the ramp.

I removed the windshield which gave us 139 to the top of the throttles.

I wet loaded the boat and trucked her to the new destination.

Once again in the water on the Watts Bar River I drove her eight miles to the new port.

I installed a new Promariner battery charger and tested the bilge pumps.

I installed a new freshwater pump and have been using the water system with no problems.

I have replaced the hot water heater.

I have changed plugs and rebuilt both carburetors.

I have also changed engine oil and filters.

I have changed both fuel pumps.

Both engines run well, both transmissions function as they should.

Both have Pertornix ignitions.

I installed a new refrigerator.

I have installed all new head hoses.

I cleaned and oiled the toe rails which appear to be in good condition.

I cleaned and sanded the swim platform, I applied three coats of Captains Varnish and reinstalled.

The wiring on board appears to be in really good shape and is fairly clean and neat.

Both heads are fully functional as well as shower after the new water heater.

The boat has 2 a/c units, one works very well 62 degrees in the mornings.

The other does not work however I have bought a replacement that will go in this year.

The generator runs and functions as it should.

It appears to be the original Kohler and is complete.

The interior was in original condition.

I have replaced the old indoor/outdoor carpet with a vinyl plank flooring.

At this point there are only trim pcs Left to be done.

The master had the original twin beds port and starboard.

I removed the center line dresser and installed a temporary center line platform to make a full bed. (The wife would not go for the twins).

At some point the boat went through a minor incident of some kind I found pictures of a light blue canvas and some bent railing.

She now has navy canvas.

I feel from the photos that something fell on the top.

I had navy canvas made to cover the front windows to make the inside cooler.

I reinstalled the mast and re-connected the wiring to make all lights function.

The previous owner relayed that the boat had originally been built for Lee Iacocca.

I have no documentation and since she has the original 427 FE Ford engines, I find that a little hard to believe.

I also found a piece of wood in the front head that had evidence of a leak.

I replaced that wood and have painted the front head.

As with any ship of her age there will always be things that an owner will want to do.

I honestly feel she is in good condition and with very little effort could shine like she once did.

The Chris Crafts were built very well and are just tough.

I am mechanically inclined, so I do all my own work, I have replaced and repaired things that I find along the way.

The hour meters do not work so I have no way of knowing the hours of operation.

Judging from the condition and appearance of the engines I feel it is a low time boat but have no way to know that for fact.

I also do not know when the bottom was done, it is ready now.

When I loaded her, I did inspect the bottom and found it to be dirty, but nothing jumped out at me as a problem.

I did find the starboard trim tab to be gone.

However, the actuator rod is intact and there are no leaks around it.

I did not get any manuals or records when I purchased the boat.

I have a list of things that I have repaired or replaced long the way.

I am a member of the Commander Club and have done extensive research on these boats.

There are not many of these 42s left, I would really like for her to go to an owner who appreciates the beauty of the old lines.

I do not have to sell her, and if we dont, I will continue to care for her.

Our reason for listing her is that we are considering another boat and I certainly do not want to be a two-boat owner!

In researching the 42s I have found some in all conditions and all price ranges.

I have priced the boat with all circumstances in mind.

She will make a fine boat and I would really like to see her go to a good home.

She is docked at Caney Creek Marina in Midtown/ Harriman Tennessee.
